Quality and Assurance Manager

Our client is a full-service CPA firm located in Markham that has been in business for over 55 years. Employing over 80 people, our Firm is built on the core values of integrity, teamwork, leadership and excellence.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Overall staff responsibility for Quality & Assurance Management including:

  • Keeping the staff apprised on all new and upcoming changes to the CPA Canada Handbook including changes in both accounting and assurance standards. This may include internal training.
  • Managing and overseeing compliance with the system of quality management.
  • Provide internal and external consultation on Handbook matters including complex accounting and assurance rules and requirements.
  • Performing evaluation and monitoring activities to ensure the firm follows our system of quality management.
  • Involvement in the preparation for and evaluation of practice inspections.
  • Performing Engagement Quality Reviews.
  • Evaluation of internal firm policies, working papers, resources and software and making recommendations where improvements should be made
  • Acting as a CPA Ontario PERT program-manager including mentoring CPA students, overseeing their development and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Managing audit and review engagements for both private businesses and not-for-profit organizations. You will also be expected to review the work of staff.
  • Meeting with Boards of Directors and/or Audit Committees to present audit/review results.
  • Supervision and training of other staff members.
  • Other responsibilities and projects as required.

Breakdown of Responsibilities:

Overseeing Q/A – 40%

Working directly on audit or tax files – 30%

Managing/mentoring staff doing audit or tax work – 20%

Overseeing/mentoring CPA students -10%

A successful candidate will have:

  • CPA designation
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience (post-designation) in public accounting with specific focus on audit and assurance.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience of the Canadian Auditing Standards, Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations.
  • An ability to evaluate policies, procedures and resources and recommend changes and improvements.
  • Proactive approach to managing changes to accounting and assurance standards and communicating changes to staff.
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring and coaching staff to foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • An ability to provide written and verbal training in an informal and formal setting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time-management, including the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • A high level of accuracy and strong attention to details.
  • Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Team-oriented and client-focused thinking.
  • Honesty, integrity, punctuality and ethical behavior.
